Rally Comes Up Short vs. Tennessee State

Box Score ATLANTA -- Georgia State went on a late run to trim Tennessee State's lead in the final minute, but the Tigers held on to win 70-67.

GSU trailed by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers fought til the end. Ashley Foster sunk a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to make it a 68-67 game, but the Tigers hit both free throws on the other end and GSU's 3FG attempt to tie the game in the final seconds didn't fall. Foster finished with a team-high 15 points and has led GSU in scoring in each of the first two games.

Deasia Merrill and Nyla Jean each scored 12 points with Jean adding six assists and four steals. Taniyah Worth led the Panthers in rebounding with eight and Elexus Bell and Alyssa Phillip each totaled seven boards.

Georgia State jumped out to a 12-6 lead but Tennessee State used full-court pressure to score 28 points off turnovers and lead by six at halftime.

The Panthers turned up the defensive pressure in the final minutes, going on a 14-1 run to erase TSU's lead. GSU finished with 20 points off turnovers. 

Georgia State falls to 0-2 and is home again on Sunday against Life U.
