Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Survive and Advance: Panthers Tops Charlotte 1-0 in First Round of NCAA Tournament

CHARLOTTE – Senior captain George Proctor scored off a first half set piece and the Georgia State men's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Charlotte at Transamerica Field on Thursday night for the first NCAA Tournament win in program history.

Playing in its fifth NCAA Tournament, Georgia State (13-6) scored its first win in the tournament and will now face No. 3-seed Georgetown on Sunday in Washington, D.C.

Georgia State outshot Charlotte (10-6-1) 12-8 as junior goalkeeper Gunther Rankenburg recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

Georgia State got on the board as Ross Finnie dropped the ball in the box and Proctor, who darted down the field and found a crease, found the back of the net in the 26th minute to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.

The lead held though Charlotte had multiple opportunities in the final minutes to find the equalizer, but fortunately for Georgia State none of the 49ers' second half shots were on target.
