Women's Soccer Falls in Conference Semifinals

FOLEY, Ala. -- Georgia State's season came to an end Friday in the semifinals of the 2021 Sun Belt Championship as South Alabama advanced to the title game with a 1-0 win.

The Panthers were in the semifinals for the fourth consecutive season after earning a 3-seed during the regular season.

GSU weathered an aggressive South Alabama attack in the first half as GSU goalkeeper made seven saves before halftime. The Jaguars broke through the stout GSU defense in the 50th minute off a corner kick set piece.

The Panthers battled to the end but were unable to find the back of the net. Subies finished with a career-high 13 saves.

"I'm proud of the girls for working hard and setting the ground work for a promising future here for the program," head coach Ed Joyce said.

GSU placed three Panthers on the All-Sun Belt First Team this season, the most for GSU since 1999. The Panthers have now won nine or more games in three straight seasons for the first time since 2003.
