Allen’s Near Triple-Double Leads Panthers to 80-51 Win Over Voorhees

Kane Williams Becomes School's All-Time Wins Leader

Box Score ATLANTA-Senior Corey Allen just missed the second triple-double in Georgia State men's basketball history as the Panthers cruised to an 80-51 win over Voorhees College on Monday night at the GSU Sports Arena.

Allen finished with 11 points, tied a career-high with 13 rebounds, and dished out a career-high eight assists as Georgia State (5-3) won for the seventh-straight time at home dating back to last season.

Five Panthers finished in double figures led by Jalen Thomas who just missed a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Senior Justin Roberts added 11 points while Evan Johnson and Ja'Heim Hudson came off the bench to score 10 points each.

Senior Kane Williams added nine points, four rebounds, and four assists, while establishing a new record with his 88th win in a Georgia State uniform, surpassing the record of 87 set by Ryann Green and Chris Clerkley.

Voorhees College (2-8) was led by Joel Davis who scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds as the lone scorer in double figures.

Georgia State jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead as Allen knocked down a pair of 3-pointers causing Voorhees to call a pair of timeouts in the first four minutes as the Tigers missed their first seven shots.

The Panthers led by as many as 19, 37-18, before halftime, doubling up the Tigers 20-10 on points in the paint and knocking down seven 3-pointers.

Georgia State got hot midway thru the second half knocking down five of six shots to take a 62-42 lead with 10:19 to play.

The Tigers would get no closer than 19 points as Georgia State used a late 10-0 run capped by a Thomas jumper to take a 76-47 lead with just 4:25 to play.

Georgia State forced Voorhees into 24 turnovers which led to 21 Panther points. GSU outrebounded the Tigers 52-32.

  • Georgia State improved to 3-0 at home this year.
  • Third year head coach Rob Lanier picked up his 98th career win as he closes in on No. 100.
  • Kane Williams remained 7th on GSU's all-time scoring list with 1,347 career points. He is currently 28 points behind Chavelo Holmes for sixth and is 472 points behind R.J. Hunter's school record of 1,819.
  • Since returning to the Sun Belt in 2013-14, Georgia State has finished in the top two of the final regular season conference standings six times in eight seasons.
  • During that same time, GSU has won more games (174) than any other NCAA Division I team in Georgia.
Georgia State will have the week off for final exams before preparing to face Mississippi State on Dec. 14. The game will air on SEC Network Plus and WRAS-FM 88.5 at 8 p.m. ET.
