Kane Williams and sophomore
Jalen Thomas each scored career highs as Georgia State won for the fourth-straight time with an 85-71 win over Appalachian State on Tuesday night in the regular season home finale at the GSU Sports Arena.
Williams finished with 24 points, going 8-of-11 from the floor, including six 3-pointers which were also a career-high. Thomas scored a career-high for the third-straight game, finishing with 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting with eight rebounds.
Georgia State (12-5, 6-4 Sun Belt) won for the fourth-straight time which now sets up a showdown in Mobile, Ala., this Friday and Saturday with first-place South Alabama. If the Panthers win both games against the Jaguars, they will win the Sun Belt Conference East Division.
Appalachian State (12-10, 6-7) lost for the fifth-straight time and dropped to 1-5 all-time in the GSU Sports Arena. The Mountaineers were led by Michael Almonacy who scored 24 points, knocking down four 3-pointers.

Corey Allen added 16 points while going 4-of-4 from the free throw line, helping the Panthers to a nearly perfect 10-of-11 from the charity stripe on Tuesday night. Redshirt-junior
Eliel Nsoseme just missed another double-double with eight points and eight assists.
On a 3-pointer by Roberts just over two minutes into the game, Georgia State took a 7-5 lead and would never trail again.
The Panthers pushed the lead to eight, 17-9, after Williams knocked down a 3-pointer in the corner and was fouled, making the free throw.
Appalachian State cut Georgia State's lead to one, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Allen gave GSU a 27-23 lead with 8:45 to play. It was the start of a stretch holding the Mountaineers without a field goal for more than eight minutes. During that time, the Panthers used a 10-0 run to take a 34-23 lead with just over five minutes to play.
Georgia State went into the locker room with a 41-31 lead, forcing the Mountaineers into eight first half turnovers which led to 11 GSU points.
A 3-pointer by Williams capped a 7-0 run early in the second half to give Georgia State a 50-39 lead with 16:43 to play. After another 3-pointer by Williams with 10:51 remaining, the Panthers took a 60-45 lead, their biggest of the game until the final three minutes.
The Mountaineers responded with a 7-0 run to cut Georgia State's lead to 60-52 with 9:11 to play, but Allen responded with another 3-pointer to halt the run.
One more 7-0 run by the Panthers, capped by an
Evan Johnson 3-pointer gave the Panthers a 73-58 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the game.
