Hess Powers Panthers to Doubleheader Sweep

ATLANTA -- Daisy Hess hit a pair of three-run homers to lead GSU to a pair of wins over Chattanooga Saturday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

The Panthers took Game 1 6-2 before winning Game 2 8-2 as Hess went a combined 5-for-8 with two home runs, a double, and seven RBI.

GSU led 1-0 in the first game before Skylar Mosel launched a two-run homer to make it a 3-0 game in the third. Hess doubled the lead with her three-run shot in the sixth. Chattanooga threatened with a pair of runs in the seventh but GSU held on as Emily Buck got the save. Sophie Mooney earned the win the in the circle with 4.0 innings of scoreless softball, allowing just three hits. 

The Mocs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2, but Hess delivered her second three-run dinger of the day in the home half of the first and the Panthers cruised to an 8-2 win. 

Bailee Richardson made it 4-2 with an RBI in the second and extended the lead to six with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. 

Savannah Freeman threw 4.1 innings of shutout softball, holding Chattanooga to three hits. Elle Doolittle struck out three and didn't allow a hit or run over the final 2.2 innings.

Georgia State improves to 12-8 on the season and will begin Sun Belt play Tuesday at home against Texas State.
