Mize, Merejo Homer in 7-4 Loss to KSU

ATLANTA – Will Mize and Elian Merejo homered but Georgia State fell 7-4 to Kennesaw State Saturday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

The four-game series now moves to Kennesaw State's Stillwell Stadium, with games scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 5 p.m.

After KSU (13-8) took a 3-0 lead, Mize hit a towering two-run homer in the third inning to cut the deficit to one. That is the third homer of the season for the freshman shortstop.

One inning later, Merejo belted a solo shot to left field to the tie game at 3-3, his second straight game with a homer.

Kennesaw State regained the lead in the fifth on a bases-loaded triple by Nick Hassan that made it 6-3.

Georgia State's final run came in the seventh as freshman Jonathan Ponder legged out a bunt single, and the throw got away from the first baseman, allowing Josh Smith to score from second.

The Panthers (5-19) outhit KSU 12-7, but left 11 men on base and hit into two double plays. GSU had two men on base in each of the final three innings but managed just one run.

Freshman Camren Landry had a strong relief outing with a career-high six strikeouts in 2.2 scoreless, hitless innings.
