Banks Shuts Down Buffalo in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Georgia State split a pair of games Friday at the JU-UNF Spring Break Challenge, beating Buffalo 10-2 before falling 5-0 to Jacksonville.

The bats came alive in the first game of the day as the Panthers clubbed three home runs in the first three innings to provide Macy Banks with more than enough run support.

Daisy Hess hit a solo bomb in the top of the first and Bailee Richardson broke the game open in the top of the third with a two-run shot before Skylar Mosel hit her second homer in as many games, a two-run dinger to left-center to give GSU a 6-2 advantage after three.

Banks entered the game in relief and allowed no runs and just one hit while striking out five over the final 5.2 innings to earn her second win of the season.

"We were seeing the ball well at the plate and got another gutsy performance from a freshman in the circle," head coach Roger Kincaid said.

The Panthers scored three more runs in the top of the fifth as Mosel drove in her third run of the game on a single followed by a sac fly from Gabby Benson and an RBI single by Kalynn Hicks.

Benson tripled a run home in the top of the seventh for added insurance to grow the lead to 10-2 as Banks continued to cruise.

GSU's offense was slowed down in the second game of the day against the host Dolphins. JU scored one in the first and used a three-run homer in the third to go on top 4-0. Jacksonville added its fifth run in the fifth inning and held the Panthers to two hits.

Georgia State has two more games at Jacksonville Saturday beginning with a 9:00 a.m. contest vs. USC Upstate followed by Florida A&M at 1 p.m.
