Hess and Mosel Homer in Loss to Coastal Carolina

ATLANTA -- Georgia State and Coastal Carolina traded blows in the series finale Sunday with the Chanticleers scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to win 8-7.

After Coastal went up 2-0 in the first, Skylar Mosel hit her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half.

The Chanticleers went back up by two with an RBI single in the top of the fourth, but Kalynn Hicks answered with an RBI double to score Olivia Davis in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2.

Coastal pulled away with a three-run frame in the top of the fifth, but Georgia State once again had an answer.

Trailing 6-2, Emily Brown hit a one-out double to right-center. Sydney Stavro followed with a single and Daisy Hess delivered the big blow with a three-run bomb that tucked just inside the foul pole down the left field line.

After a hit-by-pitch and single, Davis grounded out to score Bailee Richardson and tie the game at 6-6. Hicks then drove in her second run of the game on a pop up that found dirt in the infield, putting GSU on top for the first time.

Coastal Carolina came back to tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the sixth and brought home the go-ahead score with two outs in the top of the seventh to go in front 8-7.

Richardson singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh but was stranded on second to end the game.

Brown went 3-for-4 on the day with a run scored. Stavro and Hicks also tallied multi-hit games as well.

Georgia State travels north to Kennesaw State Wednesday to face the Owls at 6 p.m.
