Panthers Fall in Doubleheader at Sun Belt Leader South Alabama

MOBILE – Georgia State lost a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader at Sun Belt Conference East leader South Alabama, 5-1 and 4-2, Sunday at Stanky Field.
 
In Game 1, South Alabama (24-13, 11-4 Sun Belt) pitchers Matt Boswell and Jackson Boyd limited the Panthers to just three hits.
 
With the Panthers (10-32, 6-9 Sun Belt) trailing 2-0, Josh Smith's RBI-single in he fifth inning brought GSU within 2-1, but the Jaguars scored three runs in the bottom half.
 
Smith had three hits on the day, while Griffin Cheney, Dalton Pearson and Cameron Jones had two hits apiece.
 
In Game 2, the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning as one run scored on a wild pitch and then Jones delivered a two-out, RBI-single.
 
South Alabama tied the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings and then scored two in the sixth to take the lead for good and go on to its eighth straight win.
 
Both teams collected 10 hits, but the Panthers left 10 on base.
