Box Score BOONE, N.C. – Georgia State fell 4-2 at Appalachian State in the opening game of their Sun Belt Conference series at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

Ryan Glass provided the offense for the Panthers. In the second inning, the junior first baseman hit his first career triple to score Josh Smith, who doubled.

Then Glass led off the fifth inning with a walk, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on an infield single by Blaine Marchman.

The Panthers (7-24. 3-4 Sun Belt) led 2-0 after five innings, but Bailey Welch tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. One inning later, App State (12-13, 5-2 Sun Belt) took the lead on a two-run single by Robbie Young.

Strong relief outings by Chad Treadway (1.2 scoreless innings) and Duncan Lutz (1-2-3 eighth inning with two strikeouts) kept the Panthers within striking distance. In the ninth inning, Will Mize sent a ball deep to center field, but Alex Leschock made the catch against the wall.
