Glass, Smith Homer in Senior Day Win

Jones Drove in Go-Ahead Run in 7th; Watson Saved Second Straight Game

ATLANTA – Ryan Glass and Josh Smith homered, Cameron Jones drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and Ryan Watson saved his second straight game to give Georgia State an 11-10 victory over Little Rock and a series win on Senior Day at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Georgia State heads to next week's Sun Belt Conference Championship in Montgomery, Ala., with a record of 17-36 overall and 12-12 in the Sun Belt (fifth place in the East Division) as the Panthers finished .500 in league play for the first time since 2015.

"It takes every single person to win, and every single person competed their butts off today and all year," head coach Brad Stromdahl said. "I couldn't be happier for our players, our staff and everybody in our organization as a whole for establishing this foundation. I can't wait for the postseason!"

With the game tied at 9-all in the seventh inning, true freshman Preston Joye started the winning rally with a double to right center. Smith was intentionally walked for the second time in the game, and Joye moved to third on a fly ball to put runner at first and third with two outs. Then Jones, another freshman, delivered a two-out single to right field. Joye scored from third, and as Smith was going first to third, the right fielder's throw sailed high, allowing Smith to score and give the Panthers an 11-9 lead.

Georgia State won for the seventh time this season when tied or trailing after six innings.

Watson, the sophomore right-hander, pitched the final two innings for his second save in as many days. Although he allowed one run in the eighth, he quickly set down the Trojans (21-28, 11-13) in the ninth to nail down the win.

GSU fell behind early after Little Rock scored three in the first inning, but the Panthers answered in the bottom half as Glass blasted a three-run homer to straightaway center field, his eighth of the season and fifth in the last seven games. The senior homered in his first game at the GSU Baseball Complex as a freshman in 2018 and now in his last game there.

Another senior, Elian Merejo, had an RBI single and then Joye hit a two-run single to give GSU a 6-3 lead after one inning.

Senior catcher Tanner Gallman added an RBI single in the third.

Smith's team-leading ninth home run, a two-run shot to left field, put the Panthers up 9-5 in the fifth inning.

But Little Rock tied the game with a four-run sixth inning.

Georgia State will open play in the Sun Belt tourney on Tuesday.
