ATLANTA - After falling to Chattanooga and defeating California Baptist during the first day of the GSU Invitational, Georgia State fell to Memphis 0-3 (23-25, 18-25, 17-25) in the invitational finale at GSU Sports Arena Saturday evening.
Meisheia Griffin was tabbed to the All-Tournament team after accumulating 25 kills with a .347 hitting percentage over the three matches. For the tournament, Georgia State went 1-2 as the Panthers fell to undefeated Memphis on Saturday.
In the first set of the match, Georgia State came out looking to make a statement as the Panthers jumped out to a 17-13 advantage. Memphis responded with a 12-6 run to win the set, 25-23. The Panthers were led by Griffin and Leah Wilcox in set one as both players notched four kills.
The competitive nature of the first set carried over to the second set as the two teams tied on nine different occasions. After a kill by Laura Ehieze tied the match at 15, Memphis went on a 10-3 run to win the set. Georgia State had a balanced attack in set two as four players tallied two or more kills. Among the four players with two or more kills was Christyn Ashby, who had a perfect hitting percentage in the set.
Memphis carried over it's momentum from set two into the third set and jumped out to a 10-4 lead before GSU stormed back with a 7-2 run to pull within one. Memphis went on to take a much needed timeout and, minutes later, went on a 13-6 run to win the set. Erin Wyatt took over in the third set with five kills, four digs and a .833 hitting percentage.

Georgia State will look to bounce back when it hits the road next weekend for the North Florida Invitational. The Panthers are slated to face Virginia Tech, Davidson and host North Florida.
