ATLANTA - After going 2-1 in part two the GSU Invitational, Georgia State will look to continue its winning ways when it hits the road to face Clemson on Wednesday at Jervey Gymnasium in Clemson, S.C.
Georgia State will face Clemson for the first time since the Panthers upset the Tigers in 2013 at GSU Sports Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
- Georgia State welcomed Alcorn State, Presbyterian and Stetson to Atlanta for its second tournament of the 2021 campaign last weekend. The Panthers swept Alcorn State and fell to Stetson on Friday before defeating Presbyterian on Saturday to finish the tournament with a 2-1 mark.
- During the match against Presbyterian, Georgia State was led by Meisheia Griffin who tallied 17 kills while hitting .452. The senior middle blocker was named to the GSU Invitational All-Tournament team for her stellar play last weekend. For the tournament, Griffin accumulated 38 kills in the three contests while hitting .423.
- Joining her on the All-Tournament team for Georgia State was Erin Wyatt who tallied 26 kills and 36 digs for the weekend.
- The Georgia State freshmen played stellar as Olivia Kowalkowski and Evoni Lemons both came off the bench and contributed significantly. Kowalkowski had the best performance of her young career as she led the Panthers with 24 digs against Presbyterian. Lemons also had the best performance of her freshman campaign as she notched seven kills and seven digs.
THE MATCHUP
- Georgia State owns a 3-13 record all-time against Clemson. In the last matchup between the two teams, Georgia State defeated the Tigers 3-1 in 2013 at GSU Sports Arena.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Clemson is undefeated at home as the Tigers hoist a 3-0 mark at Jervey Gymnasium.
- Offensively, Clemson is led by Kaylee Martin who has 80 kills this season while hitting .283.
NEXT UP
After closing non-conference play with a road showdown at Clemson, Georgia State will have an eight day hiatus before opening Sun Belt play and traveling to Monroe, La. to face ULM.
