Women's Basketball Falls to Texas State

ATLANTA -- Georgia State fell 73-55 to Texas State in a Sun Belt Conference game Saturday at the GSU Sports Arena.

Freshman Nyla Jean led the Panthers (6-9, 0-3 Sun Belt) with 13 points. The rookie from Tampa, Fla., was 3-for-3 from 3-point range as she reached double figures for the third straight game.

Ashley Foster, Georgia State's leading scorer who missed the last two games, returned today to score 10 points off the bench. She was 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Alex Gitchenko and Deasia Merrill were the Panthers' top rebounders with six each, while Hannah Sadler contributed three steals and three blocked shots.

The Panthers struggled offensively, shooting just 26 percent from the field, including 4-for-20 from long range.

Da'Nasia Hood, one of the top scorers in the Sun Belt, was outstanding for Texas State (8-9, 3-2) with 26 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the field and 14 rebounds. Point guard Kennedy Taylor also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists.
