HATTIESBURG – Georgia State fell to new Sun Belt Conference foe, Southern Miss, 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-22).
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Panthers battle back and tied it up 4-4. Southern Miss would go on a 6-0 scoring run which would ultimately be too much for the Panthers to bounce back from. The Panthers would drop set one 25-11.
The Golden Eagles got out to a hot start in set two, picking up right where they left off. An early 7-0 scoring run gave Southern Miss the lead. They would go on to win the second set, 25-11.
The Panthers took the early lead in the third set, ignited by an Evoni Lemons kill. The Golden Eagles bounced back and went up 16-12. The Panthers continued fighting and a block from
Isabelle Percoco and Laura Ehieze brought the Panthers within two. However, it would not be enough as the Golden Eagles would go on to win set three 25-22.
Jenna Brown led the team with eight assists and Palmer tacked on five herself. Laura Ehieze led the Panthers with five kills. Both Livy Kowalkowski and
Ryan Spicer-Gordon saw action as liberos and recorded five digs. As a team the Panthers notched six blocks including three by
Isabelle Percoco.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow at 3 PM ET to take on the Golden Eagles once more. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
