Panthers Return Home Comes Up Short

ATLANTA - Senior outside hitter, Julianna Truscott notched her first career double-double helping push the match to five sets, before the Panthers eventually fell to App State 3-2.
 
The senior led all players on the court with 19 points, 18 kills, and tied libero, Livy Kowalkowski for the match-high 17 digs.  
 
The Panthers got off to a good start in the first match back at home after a month-long road trip, going up 3-0 over the Mountaineers in set one. However, tied up at 8-8 the Mountaineers went on a 4-0 run giving them the advantage. The Panthers could not recover from the deficit and at 16-19, the Mountaineers went on a 6-0 run to win the set, 25-16.
 
Set two opened with a Jenna Brown ace, (No. 26 on the season) before the teams began trading points. Tied up at 14, Clara Bednarek and Isabelle Percoco went up and got the block to give the Panthers the 15-14 edge. The Mountaineers bounced back and eventually gained a three-point lead at 20-17. A service error by the Mountaineers at their set point extended the match. Bednarek sent one cross court for the kill to give the Panthers set point, before a Laura Ehieze kill ended set two, 28-26.
 

 
The Mountaineers got off to a hot start in set three and never looked back. The third set was the only set to have zero lead changes and zero ties. A 6-0 run in the middle of the set extended their lead to eight, the same margin they would win the set by 25-17.
 
Set four was back-and-forth with ten ties and six lead changes. The largest lead was four points, when the Panthers held a 10-6 advantage over the Mountaineers. The Panthers were donw 12-11, before Izzy Durnell scored three in a row giving her team a 14-12 lead. Three more ties before the match became tied at 22-all. Back-to-back kills by Truscott and Ehieze would ultimately give the Panthers the set four victory, 25-22.
 

 
The Mountaineers took the lead early in set five. They were able to go on a 4-0 scoring run, going up 12-6 over the Panthers. While the Panthers attempted to battle back, the deficit was too much and the Mountaineers took set five, 15-10, winning the match.
 
Brown led all players on the court with 31 assists, while Laughlin Murray dished out a career-high 22 assists. Ehieze hit .583 on eight kills with four blocks. Percoco and Erin Wyatt both notched double-digit kills, hitting 11 and 10 respectively. Bednarek put down eight kills and five blocks.
 
The Panthers are back at the GSU Sports Arena tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET for a rematch against App State.
