Kowalkowski Leads Panthers to Regular Season Finale 3-1 Win

Livy Kowalkowski moved up to tenth in the GSU record book for single season digs in the Panthers 3-1 win over the Warhawks. The sophomore libero recorded 21 digs in the match, bringing her season total to 459. The Panthers closed out the regular season in four sets, (25-18 ULM, 25-21 GSU, 25-21 GSU, 25-23 GSU).

Several other Panthers had notable performances. Maren Palmer dished out a career-high 30 assists. Freshman Crystal Galaviz put down a career-high nine kills and three blocks.  Truscott notched 17 kills in her tenth double-digit kill performance of the season. The senior also tallied five blocks in the all-around stellar performance. Both Kayla Broom and Isabelle Percoco charted six blocks. Lemons tied her season-high 11 kills. Setter Jenna Brown notched a season-high 11 digs.

The Panthers went down early in the opening set, plagued by six errors in the first seven points. However, they battled back, and a Truscott kill helped them take the 9-8 lead. The Warhawks quickly responded with a 4-0 run to retake the lead themselves. Another long run for the Warhawks would seal the deal and the Warhawks won the opening set 25-18.

Ryan Spicer-Gordon got things started for the Panthers in the second set with an ace. A 7-0 run in the middle of the set highlighted by back-to-back blocks from Percoco and Erin Wyatt, was too much for the Warhawks to recover from. A kill from Percoco gave the Panthers the second set victory, 25-21.

Lemons opened the third set with a kill and pair of 3-0 runs from the Panthers helped them gain the lead which they would not relinquish. Galaviz put down a kill during each of the runs, while Truscott and Percoco defended the net. Lemons gave the Panthers set point from a Brown assist before Wyatt would end the set from the service line with an ace.

The Panthers got out to an early lead in the fourth set, which they kept until 15-11. The Warhawks went on a 4-0 run to tie it up at 15-all. The Panthers regained the lead and blocks from Truscott, Galaviz, and Broom put the Panthers up 22-17. The Warhawks tied it up once again at 23-all. Galaviz put down a kill to give the Panthers match point and Erin Wyatt would seal the deal with a block, 25-23.

The Panthers look to use the momentum of the regular season finale victory as they head to the Sun Belt  conference tournament beginning Wednesday November 16.
