Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Panthers Shut Out Clark Atlanta with Dominant Road Performance

ATLANTA- Returning to spring play after nearly a month-long break in competition, the Georgia State women's tennis team defeated Clark Atlanta, 7-0, in the first match of a weekend triple-header for GSU. Previously scheduled to be played last weekend, the Panthers move to 1-3 on the season following the win.

GSU entered the match with an early 1-0 advantage following Clark Atlanta being forced to forfeit at the fifth position in singles due to being down one player. The Panthers secured another point in doubles play with wins by graduate transfer Sofya Golubovskaya and Angel Carney at the team's first position as well as Andreea Stanescu and Maddy Frediani at the second position.

GSU proceeded to sweep the match by winning all five courts in singles competition and ultimately clinching, 7-0. Golubovskaya saw a dominate win, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 1 position for the Panthers while freshman Pragnya Kumar secured her first collegiate victory with a resounding shutout victory, 6-0, 6-0.

Alexia Alvarez secured a win on court No. 2, 6-2, 6-2, and Carney saw another victory in singles, 6-1, 6-2, on court No. 3. Ellie Aldrich closed out the match for the Panthers with a win, 6-4, 6-2 in the fifth position.

The win is a much needed one for a Panthers unit that had not seen match play since Jan. 17. GSU hopes to build off momentum from the win for the second match in a trio of weekend outings as the team travels to Macon, Ga. to face Mercer on Friday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. ET.

The Panthers will return home on Sunday, Feb. 13 to face Lipscomb at 2 p.m. ET. The match will be the team's home opener at the GSU Clarkston Courts.
