Panthers Post Dominant Shutout on the Road Over UNC Greensboro, 7-0

Greensboro, N.C.- In the team's third shutout win of the season, the Georgia State women's tennis team defeated UNC Greensboro on the road, 7-0, on Friday. Dropping only one set in match play, the Panthers secured victory in dominant fashion as the team displayed one-sided performances in both singles and doubles competition.

GSU made quick work of UNCG in doubles play as Sofya Golubovskaya and Eva Chivu closed out their opponents, 6-1, in the team's first position while duo Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich saw victory, 6-2, at the No. 2 position for GSU. The Panthers then entered singles competition and posted resounding wins on every court across the team's lineup.

Coming off a Sun Belt Player of the Week nomination following dominant play in all three of the team's wins last weekend, Angel Carney posted yet another strong singles victory, 6-1, 6-2, in the team's fifth position. Alexia Alvarez secured another point for GSU with a victory in the fourth position, 6-3, 6-0, and Golubovskaya saw victory, 6-1, 6-3, in the second position as she clinched a fourth point and the match win for the Panthers.

Stanescu notched another singles victory, 6-2, 6-3, in the third position to give the team an additional point, and Aldrich claimed court No. 6 for the Panthers as the sophomore extended the lead to 6-0 in favor of GSU.

Returning to play after missing time in the team's last three matches, Chivu knocked off her opponent in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, (11-9), in the No. 1 position for GSU to close out the day. The singular set loss came at the frontend of Chivu's first match back returning from an injury, as the senior narrowly dropped her first set and proceeded to post wins in each of the next two sets to earn the team its seventh and final point.

Moving to 4-3 following Friday's win, GSU will have a quick turnaround as the Panthers travel up the road in Greensboro to face Elon on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET. The match will be played at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
