Tolivert's Heroics Leads Panthers to 60-57 OT Win at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala.-Mikyla Tolivert's lay-up with 6.4 seconds to play lifted the Georgia State women's basketball team to a 60-57 overtime win over South Alabama on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Center.

Georgia State (9-14, 3-8 Sun Belt) snapped a five-game losing streak while handing South Alabama (8-15, 2-8 Sun Belt) its sixth-straight loss. The game was won by Georgia State's bench which outscored the Jaguars 44-5.

Tolivert and Taniyah Worth led the Panthers with 13 points each. Tolivert went 5-of-7 from the floor with six rebounds, providing the heroics at the end.
Jaylin Powell led South Alabama with 22 points going 7-of-19 from the floor with five 3-pointers and eight rebounds.

South Alabama took an early 4-0 lead before a 7-0 run by the Panthers helped the road team to a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In a low scoring second quarter, Kam Dziak knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:46 to play to give Georgia State a 15-11 lead. It was the 100th career 3-pointer for Dziak and helped propel the Panthers to an 18-15 lead at halftime.

An 8-0 run for the Jaguars midway thru the third quarter put the home team ahead 28-23 with 6:42 to play, however, the Panthers crawled back and took the lead, 31-29, on a Worth 3-pointer with 1:39 to remaining. Powell hit a 3-pointer for the Jaguars with less than a minute to play to give USA a 32-31 lead going to the fourth quarter.

After a pair of Ashley Foster free throws with 1:37 to play, Georgia State led 48-44. Unfortunately, Dee Haymer made a pair of lay-ups in the final 90 seconds to tie the game at 48. After a Nyla Jean steal in the final seconds, a 3-pointer for the Panthers was off the mark and send the game into overtime.

In overtime, South Alabama raced out to a quick 55-52 lead with 2:40 to play, but the Panthers scored eight of the final 10 points, including a pair of free throws by Jean with four seconds to play to secure the win.

Georgia State finished the night shooting 40.4 percent from the floor while holding the Jaguars to just 34.4 percent shooting while forcing 25 turnovers that led to 17 points.

Georgia State will continue a four-game stretch away from home to end the regular season at Louisiana on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN+.
