Ryerson Homers Twice But Panthers Suffer First Loss

ATLANTA -- Max Ryerson homered twice for Georgia State but the Panthers (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season, 6-4 at Kennesaw State Wednesday at Stillwell Stadium.

Ryerson, the designated hitter and transfer from Gulf Coast State, hit his third and fourth homers in the first five games.

In the third inning, Ryerson hit a two-run blast to right field to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. After KSU (4-1) took a 5-3 lead in the sixth, Ryerson added a solo shot to right center in eighth inning that brought Georgia State within 5-4.

Griffin Cheney, the senior shortstop, got Georgia State on the board with a solo homer, his second, down the left field line in the second inning. 

Making his first start for the Panthers, sophomore right-hander Camren Landry (0-1) pitched into the sixth inning for a career-long outing of 5-1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

The Panthers travel to No. 15 Florida for a weekend series that opens Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Florida Ballpark.
