LEADING OFF
> Georgia State faces its fourth straight game against a ranked opponent as the Panthers (4-4) host No. 10 Georgia Tech (7-1) Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex in the first leg of the annual home-and-home between the two Atlanta schools.

> Last season, State and Tech split the season series as the Panthers knocked off the No. 10 Yellow Jackets 10-1 at Georgia Tech, but Tech won 7-2 at Panthersville.

> Georgia State will play seven of its next eight games and 10 of the next 12 at home.

> Two-way standout Cameron Jones leads the Panthers with a .406 batting average, and his 13 hits are first in the Sun Belt Conference. On the mound, Jones earned his first save in last Sunday's 8-7 victory, recording the final two outs with strikeouts.

> Super senior shortstop Griffin Cheney is also off a strong start with a .400 average, including three homers and six RBI.

> Designated hitter Max Ryerson leads the Sun Belt Conference with four home runs and 24 total bases. He hit two runs on Opening Weekend vs. Purdue Fort Wayne and then slugged two more at Kennesaw State. Ryerson is a junior college transfer from Gulf Coast State, where he was the 2021 Panhandle Conference Player of the Year.

> After sweeping Purdue Fort Wayne on Opening Weekend, the Panthers started 4-0 for the first time since a 7-0 start in 2011. Head coach Brad Stromdahl was a GSU assistant at that time.

> Several freshmen are already making an impact, including OF JoJo Jackson (4 hits, 2 outfield assists); INF Jesse Donohoe (3 starts, .364 avg.) and INF-RHP Trent Reddick (Retired 10 straight vs. PFW).

> Third-year head coach Brad Stromdahl took over the Georgia State program in 2020 after seven seasons as the head coach at Georgia Gwinnett, where he started the program from scratch in 2013 and compiled a record of 328-104. He led the Grizzlies to the Avista-NAIA World Series three times, including his last two years (2018-19). Before going to Georgia Gwinnett in November 2011, Stromdahl spent five seasons (2007-11) as an assistant coach at Georgia State.

SERIES VS. GEORGIA TECH

> Georgia State knocked off then No. 10 Georgia Tech 10-1 on March 3, 2021 at Tech. Freshman right-hander Mason Patel pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while striking out eight, the most strikeouts for a GSU freshman since 2013. Backing the strong pitching effort were Will Mize (2-for-4, 2-run HR, 2B, 3 RBI) and Kyle Riesselmann (2-run HR, 3 RBI) as the Panthers jumped in front with four runs in the first inning and never looked back.

> GSU's 10-1 victory in 2009 over a Tech team ranked No. 3 was the highest-ranked team the Panthers had ever beaten until last year's 4-2 victory at No. 2 Vanderbilt.

> Brad Stromdahl is 1-1 against Tech as a head coach, and during his tenure as a GSU assistant coach, he helped the Panthers to three wins over the Jackets (2007, 2009 and 2011), all on the road and all over ranked Tech teams.

>The two Atlanta schools have met 81 times since 1971, including every year since Georgia State reinstated its program in 1992 through 2019. They did not meet in the abbreviated 2020 season. Georgia Tech leads the series 69-12.

GEORGIA STATE vs. RANKED TEAMS

> Since the start of the 2021 season, Georgia State has played 19 games vs. ranked teams.
> The Panthers earned four wins over ranked opponents last season: No. 14 West Virginia twice, 7-6 (10) and 20-4 (home); No. 2 Vanderbilt, 4-2 (away) for the highest-ranked win in program history; and No. 10 Georgia Tech, 10-1 (away).
