Panthers Host No. 21 Auburn Wednesday

ATLANTA – Riding a three-game winning streak, the Georgia State softball team will host No. 21 Auburn on Wednesday night at 6 p.m., at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Georgia State (5-7) will face an Auburn (15-1) squad that comes in as one of the hottest in the country, riding a seven-game winning streak including a sweep of five games in the Plainsman Invite over the weekend. The Panthers will be facing the Tigers for the 11th time and looking to pick up their first win over Auburn.

The Panthers are playing well themselves following three-straight wins to end the I-75 Challenge over the weekend before Sunday's final game of the event against Penn State was rained-out.

The streak was powered by junior Bailee Richardson who earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors on Tuesday morning. In five games last week Richardson batted .471 (8-for-17) with three home runs, five runs scored, nine RBI, and 19 total bases for a 1.118 slugging percentage.

For the season Richardson is batting .439 and leads the Sun Belt Conference in home runs (6), RBI (18) and total bases (41).

Under first year head coach Angie Nicholson, the Panthers have shown to be a threat on the basepaths swiping 27 steals in the first 12 games. The Panthers are batting .259, while holding opponents to just a .248 batting average.

Carolyn Deady is also off to a solid start batting .409 with three home runs and eight RBI. The catcher hit two home runs in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with Jacksonville State.

In the circle, Julia Allen has led the pitching staff with a 1-0 record and 2.80 ERA in three starts. Emily Buck has led the team in innings pitched (24.2) and combined for a 2-3 record with a 3.41 ERA.

Admission to all Georgia State softball games is free of charge.

Following the game on Wednesday, Georgia State will return to Florida for the second time this year to play in the Bubly Invitational hosted by Florida. The first game is set for Friday morning at 10:30 a.m., squaring off against Tennessee State.
