Men's Tennis Drops Match at No. 47 Louisiana, Splits Weekend Competition

Lafayette, La.- Coming off a conference victory over UT Arlington on Friday, the Georgia State men's tennis team fell to No. 47 Louisiana, 4-1, on Sunday. The split in weekend competition on the road moves the Panthers to 11-7 on the spring and 3-1 in Sun Belt play.

The battle for first place in the conference saw the Panthers enter Sunday's competition by posting a strong doubles performance as the team secured the first point of the match with wins on courts No. 3 and No. 1.

Patrick Lazo and Diego Padilha saw victory, 6-2, on the third court while No. 78 pair Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds won, 7-5, at the top court. GSU has seen doubles victories in 13 of its 18 matches thus far in the spring.

Despite the early point and the lead, 1-0, the team was faced with battles for each point across all singles courts. The Panthers' efforts would ultimately come up short as GSU dropped matches in positions No. 5, No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 and was defeated by conference foe Louisiana, 4-1.

With the loss, the Panthers move to second place in the Sun Belt. The remainder of the team's schedule includes two additional outings facing conference opponents before GSU gears up for SBC tournament play beginning April 15.

GSU will return to action on the road next weekend in matches against conference opponent Coastal Carolina on Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m. ET followed by Presbyterian on Sunday, April 3 at 1 p.m. ET.

Information regarding live stats for each outing will be posted to the team's social media pages. Follow the Georgia State men's tennis team on Twitter and Instagram (@GSUMTennis) for the latest news and updates throughout the season.
