Women's Tennis Shuts Out Arkansas State on the Road

Jonesboro, Ark.— The Georgia State women's tennis team closed out its road campaign with a shutout victory over Sun Belt opponent Arkansas State on Saturday. Sofya Golubovskaya clinched the match at the No. 2 court position for GSU as the Panthers improved to 9-1 in SBC play and 15-5 overall for the season.

GSU entered Saturday's match coming off back-to-back conference wins in Texas last weekend. The Panthers picked up another victory in doubles with wins by Golubovskaya and Angel Carney at the top court as well as Andreea Stanescu and Ellie Aldrich at court position No. 2.

Aldrich added another point to the Panthers' total with a win at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-3, putting GSU ahead, 2-0.

Carney downed her opponent at the No. 4 court position, 6-4, 6-1, as the junior improved her winning streak to 15 in a row. Carney is now two wins shy of tying the school record for consecutive victories in a season.

Golubovskaya secured the match point and a victory for GSU with her win, 6-3, 6-2, at the second court. Matches on courts No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 went unfinished with the Panthers up a set in all three positions and leading in the second.

With the victory, GSU extends its new school record for Sun Belt wins in a season to eight. The team also nears the school record for overall wins in a season that currently stands at 17.

Women's tennis will close out regular season play with a final home outing facing conference in-state rival Georgia Southern for Senior Day on Friday, April 15 at 10:30 a.m. ET. The match will be hosted by the Panthers at the GSU Clarkston Courts with live scoring available to fans.

More information on Senior Day will be released on the web and posted to the team's social media leading up to the match. Follow Georgia State women's tennis on Twitter (@GSUWTennis) and Instagram (@GSUWomensTennis) for more updates as the Panthers near SBC tournament play beginning April 21.
