Ryerson Hits 17th & 18th Homers But Rally Comes Up Short

Panthers Win the Series, Two Games to One

ATLANTA -- Georgia State hit four home runs, including two by Sun Belt Conference leader Max Ryerson, but the Panthers' rally came up just short in a 10-7 loss to Appalachian State Sunday at the GSU Baseball Complex. GSU (27-22, 12-12 Sun Belt) won the series, two games to one.

Ryerson, the junior outfielder, drove in four runs with his 17th and 18th home runs and his sixth two-homer game of the season. His 18 homers equal the third-highest season total in program history; only Chad Smith (21 in 2000) and Jason Glover (20 in 1996) have hit more in a Panther uniform.

Cameron Jones and Caleb Stewart also homered for Georgia State, which has hit 68 homers on the year, the fourth-highest season total in program history and most with the current bats.

But the Panthers found themselves playing from behind all day after App State (16-28, 7-17) scored four runs in the first inning. Ryerson's hit a 2-run homer in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 4-2, but the Mountaineers scored two in the second and two more in the third to lead 8-2.

Georgia State scored three in the fourth on Ryerson's second 2-run homer of the day and and RBI-groundout by Josh Smith to pull within 8-5.

Stewart led off the fifth inning with a homer, his second of the weekend and fourth of the season, and Jones led off the sixth with his fifth home run to make it 8-7.

But App managed two runs in the seventh and the Panthers could get no closer.

Georgia State hosts Mercer in the final midweek game of the season on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
