Brown and Kowalkowski Named to All-Tournament Team Following Victory Over Chattanooga

Jenna Brown and Livy Kowalkowski were named to the Jacksonville Invitational All-Tournament team following the Panthers five-set victory over the Chattanooga Mocs.

The Panthers had some errors early on, giving the Mocs a 6-1 lead in set one. While they tried to battle back, the lead grew to ten and the Panthers could not overcome it, dropping set one 25-15.

After regrouping at the break, the Panthers brought a new energy into set two. Isabelle Percoco got things started for the Panthers with a block before serving up back-to-back aces. Percoco continued to shine in set two, going up for back-to-back blocks with middle blocker, Clara Bednarek bringing the Panthers lead to seven. Right-side hitter Izzy Durnell put down four kills in the second set as well, helping the Panthers earn set point. Percoco would win the final point for the Panthers from a Maren Palmer assist.

Durnell picked up right where she left off with three kills in a row off Jenna Brown assists to give the Panthers the early lead. A Palmer ace, and a pair of kills from Erin Wyatt increased the Panthers lead to seven. However, after a few errors by the Panthers, the Mocs were able to battle back and tie the game at 12. The Panthers traded points with the Mocs until a Palmer assist led to a Truscott kill, giving the Panthers set point. The Panthers were unable to close the door and although they pushed the Mocs to extra points, the Mocs took the set three victory.

At the start of the fourth set, Wyatt put down six kills in the first nine points the Panthers scored. With Livy Kowalkowski at the service line, the Panthers were able to extend their lead 17-10. Once again with Panthers holding set point the Mocs battled back, but a Julianna Truscott kill would win the set for the Panthers.

Once the Panthers went up 4-3 in the fifth and final set, they did not relinquish the lead. A pair of kills by Wyatt would push the Panthers to eight and the teams switched sides. A Kowalkowski ace put Panthers up 10 – 6, but the Mocs were able to bring themselves back within one. Percoco, Bednarek, and Truscott went up big to help extend the lead. Senior Laura Ehieze sealed the deal for the Panthers with a kill.

Erin Wyatt led all hitters on the court with 16 kills, earning her third double-double with 19 digs. Durnell was the other Panther to notch double-digit kills with 11. Brown finished 28 assists bringing her season total to 147, also adding four aces to her stat line. Palmer finished with 16 assists and three aces. Percoco and Bednarek dominated the nets with eight blocks. Kowalkowski recorded a career-high 27 digs, already eclipsing the 100- dig mark for the season.

The Panthers continue their road trip next weekend as they head to Johnson, Tenn. for the Buccaneer Classic, where they will face East Tennessee State, USC-Upstate, and Clemson.
