Moore Scores Career-High 17 in 58-52 Loss

STATESBORO, GA. -- Collin Moore scored a career-high 17 points, but Georgia State could not overcome a slow start and fell at Georgia Southern 58-52 at Hanner Fieldhouse.

Moore, playing in just his second game of the season, started today and went 6-for-12 from the field and also contributed five rebounds and two steals. The sophomore from Little Rock, Ark., had been sidelined since early in the fall with a hand injury.

Evan Johnson scored 11 points for GSU (9-11, 2-6, and Brenden Tucker added 10.

But the Panthers, playing without leading scorer Dwon Odom, fell behind in the first half after a stretch of nearly 14 minutes without a field goal. That sent Georgia State into the locker room down 34-16 after 20 minutes. The Panthers managed just 5-for-26 shooting in the first half.

Georgia State started to inch closer with a 10-0 run midway through the second half. A 3-pointer by Moore pulled the Panthers within 53-44 with 2:24 to play. After a timeout, Moore grabbed a steal and converted the fastbreak layup, and it was 53-46 with 1:51 left. But Georgia Southern (12-9, 5-3) managed to hit enough free throws to keep Georgia State at arms length, and the Panthers could get no closer until a bucket in the final seconds for the final six-point margin.

GSU shot nearly 50 percent in the second half and held Georgia Southern below 27 percent to outscore the Eagles 36-24 in the second half.

The Panthers' hit four treys on the day, extending Georgia State's streak of game with at least one 3-pointer to 850, dating back to 1995.

Georgia State will be on the road again next weekend at App State Thursday and Marshall Saturday. The next home game for the Panthers is the Feb. 2 rematch with Georgia Southern at the GSU Convocation Center. For tickets, visit GeorgiaStateSports.com/Tix or call 404-413-4020 during business hours.
