BOONE, NC --The Georgia State volleyball team could not overcome an opposing Mountaineers offense Saturday on the road, falling to Appalachian State in straight sets (16-25, 22-25, 17-25). The Panthers split the two-game series at App State.
Freshman Akira Burt finished with six kills on the day to lead the Panthers (5-12, 2-4 Sun Belt) offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .364. GSU got 12 digs from Jexsamarie Perez along with five blocks from Amanda Albertini to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Panthers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-16. Georgia State trailed by as many as nine points as Appalachian State grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Mountaineers took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | A 25-22 set-two loss put Georgia State in a 2-0 hole in the match. The Panthers rallied from a seven-point 20-13 hole, but Appalachian State hung on to take the set.
SET 3 | Georgia State was not able to win set three and was swept by Appalachian State. The Panthers fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before losing the set 25-17.
