ATLANTA, -- Georgia State and Arkansas State played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday (Oct. 8) at the GSU Soccer Complex.
The game kicked off with a quick pace, as both teams managed to register a shot on goal within the first 8 minutes. In the 10th minute, the Panthers earned their first corner kick, and it resulted in two excellent goal-scoring opportunities. First, Aaliyah Faddoul had her shot saved by the keeper, and then Eva Diez Lois seized the rebound, but the keeper pulled off another impressive save, preserving the score at 0-0.
During the first half, GSU would register 5 more shots, with one of the most notable attempts coming from Therese Guldager. She fired a shot on goal from a free kick that forced the keeper to make a last-second adjustment to catch the ball, preserving the 0-0 score going into halftime.
At halftime, Georgia State held the advantage in shots, leading eight to four, with four of those shots on target compared to Arkansas State's one. Georgia State also led two to zero in corner kicks.
The Panthers came out of the half with great intensity, registering nine shots in the first twenty minutes, while Arkansas State failed to take any shots during this time. Several notable chances arose during this period. In the 60th minute, Jimena Cabrero unleashed a powerful shot from the top of the box that the goalkeeper managed to push out for a corner kick. Additionally, Bree Barley displayed her speed as she surged past the defenders and beat the goalie, but at the last second, an Arkansas State defender was able to clear the ball out.
Georgia State maintained their ball dominance and continued to launch shots toward the goal for the remainder of the half. However, in the 80th minute, Arkansas State managed to break free, and a player found themselves one-on-one with the Panthers' goalkeeper, Jaddah Foos. Foos came through with a game-saving save for the Panthers, preserving the stalemate.
In the second half, Georgia State fired a total of fourteen shots, with six of them on target, while Arkansas State had five shots, with only one on target. Georgia State also secured two corner kicks to Arkansas State's one.
Jimena Cabrero led the way with six shots, while Aaliyah Faddoul also contributed four shots. Jaddah Foos was able to keep a clean sheet with two saves.
Georgia St. moved to 7-2-4 overall and 3-1-1 in Sun Belt play with the tie.
The Panthers will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 11th, at 6:00 PM, as they face their in-state rivals, Georgia Southern.
