Panthers Hit Four Homers at Clemson But Fall on Walk-Off

CLEMSON -- Georgia State fell 9-8 at Clemson as the Tigers scored five runs in the ninth inning Friday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, including a walk-off grand slam by Billy Amick.

Luke Boynton hit two homers for Georgia State (9-5), which ranks among the national leaders in home runs and hit four on the day to take an 8-2 lead after five innings.

Dylan Strickland and Boynton hit back-to-back solo homers in the second inning to give the Panthers the early lead. Then Matt Ruiz hit a 2-run homer to center field in the third, homering in his second straight game to put GSU up 4-0 in the third.

After Clemson scored one in the third, the Panthers added tacked on two more in the fourth as Boynton scored on a wild pitch and Max Ryerson delivered an RBI-single.

Georgia State extended its lead to 8-2 in the fifth as Boynton hit his second homer of the day and fourth of the season. Both homers traveled over 400 feet.

Boynton was 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Ryerson and Dalton Pearson had two hits each

GSU starter Joseph Brandon tied his career high with seven strikeouts in four innings. Freshman Davis Chastain tossed 1.2 scoreless innings, and Aidan McAllister followed with 1.1 scoreless.

The Georgia State staff struck out 16 Tigers (8-6).

The series will conclude with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
