Panthers Rally to Tie in 9th But Fall on Walk-Off at Mercer

MACON, GA -- Will Mize's 2-run double in the ninth inning tied the game for Georgia State, but the Panthers fell to Mercer 11-9 on a walk-off homer at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Georgia State (9-8) rallied from a 9-5 deficit after six innings. JoJo Jackson hit his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the seventh to make it 9-6, and then Jesse Donohoe's RBI-single in the eighth pulled the Panthers within two. 

In the ninth, Jackson drew a one-out walk and then Luke Boynton singled to put runners at first and third with two outs.

Mize, the junior infielder, came to the plate as a pinch hitter and hit a shallow fly ball that the got past the right fielder and scored both runners, tying the game at 9-all.

But Jozsef Rohrbacher hit a 2-run homer in the bottom half for the winning runs for the Bears (13-5).

Jackson, the sophomore outfielder, reached base in all five of his plate appearances with a single, home run and three walks. Donohoe had two run-scoring singles, Boynton was 3-for-5, and Matt Ruiz and Dalton Pearson added two hits each for the Panthers.

Cameron Jones had his streak of 32 consecutive games reaching base snapped, while Max Ryerson drew three walks to extend his streak to 29 in row.

Georgia State returns home to open Sun Belt Conference play against Troy in a three-game series that begins Friday at 6 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
