ATLANTA -- The Georgia State softball team walked-off Western Carolina in both ends of a doubleheader on home runs by
Abby Brown and
Carolyn Deady to sweep the twinbill 6-3 and 1-0 Wednesday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
Junior pitcher
Elle Doolittle (5-1), on her 21st birthday, earned both victories with eight scoreless innings.
The two walk-off victories today give the Panthers five wins this season in their final at-bat.
In Game 1, the Panthers (10-13) entered the seventh inning tied 3-3.
Ashton Schroyer delivered a one-out single and then
Chloe Nadler reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at first and second. With two outs, Brown hit the 2-1 pitch down the left field line and over the fence for the walk-off win.
That was the second home run of the season for the sophomore from Tallapoosa, Ga.
Nadler went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the game, while
Emily Brown had three hits and two runs scored.
In Game 2, Deady, the junior catcher, broke a scoreless tie with her solo homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. She now has two homers on the season.
Doolittle pitched a scoreless top of the seventh in relief to earn the victory in Game 1 and then tossed her first complete-game shutout in Game 2. She struck out five while allowing six hits and one walk.
The Panthers start Sun Belt Conference play on Friday as they take on South Alabama in Moblie, Alabama. They will be back at home on Wednesday, March 22 to face the Mercer Bears in a doubleheader, first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
