Watson, Donohoe Lead as Panthers Even Series with 10-4 Win

BOONE, N.C. -- Ryan Watson pitched a career-high 8.2 innings and Jesse Donohoe homered twice to lead Georgia State to a 10-4 victory at Appalachian State to even the Sun Belt Conference series at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

The series will be decided in a 1 p.m. game Sunday on ESPN+.

Watson, the super senior from Sugar Hill, Ga. (North Gwinnett High School) gave the Panthers a strong outing that save the bullpen for Sunday's series finale. He threw 126 pitches, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. After allowing single runs in the first and second innings, he pitched five scoreless innings while the Panthers seized control of the game on offense to lead 10-2 in the middle of the eighth.

Watson earned his 15th career victory and is now tied for seventh in GSU history.

Donohoe, the sophomore infielder from Columbus, Ga. (Calvary Christian School) started the scoring with a 2-run homer in the second inning to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. He also hit a solo homer in the seventh to give him three on the season.

Max Ryerson also homered for the Panthers (13-10, 4-1), hitting his fifth of the season and the 36th of his career. Twenty-seven of those long balls have come in the last two seasons at GSU, giving him sole possession of ninth place in program history.

After App State (12-9, 3-2) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Panthers scored in seven straight innings.

Dylan Strickland, the reigning National and Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, had two hits and two RBI, while shortstop Matt Ruiz and catcher Kyle Hilton also drove in two runs each.
