Panthers Drop Game 2 at South Alabama to Even Series

MOBILE, ALA. -- Georgia State fell 5-2 at South Alabama Saturday afternoon at Stanky Field, evening the Sun Belt Conference series at one game apiece.

The series finale is Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

Georgia State (20-20, 8-9 Sun Belt) outhit the Jaguars (20-19, 8-9) 7-4, but the Panthers left 10 men on base, and the GSU pitching staff issued eight walks and hit five batters. 

Trailing 3-0, Georgia State managed a run in the fourth on a balk. One inning later, Cameron Jones brought the Panthers within one with an RBI on a fielder's choice. But South Alabama answered in the bottom of the fifth with a 2-run homer by William Sullivan.

JoJo Jackson, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games, and Dylan Strickland had two hits each for the Panthers

Duncan Lutz was the most effective Panther pitcher. He came on with bases loaded and no outs in the third inning and recorded a strikeout and then induced an inning-ending double play. He struck out two more in a 1-2-3 fourth inning.
