ATLANTA - Georgia State (16-34, 6-16 Sun Belt ) fell to Southern Mississippi (21-22, 5-16 Sun Belt) in game one of a crucial final series of the regular season. The Panthers need two wins to clinch a berth to the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
The Golden Eagles jumped out ahead quick in the first inning rattling off a double and then a 2 rbi home run.
The Panthers finally got on the board after
Emily Brown and
Chloe Middlebrooks hit singles and ended up in scoring position as
Bailee Richardson beat out the thorw to first. Brown then took home on the throw, Middlebrooks and Richardson advanced but were left on base in the end.
Later in the fourth and seventh innings the Golden Eagles scored two more runs to clinch the victory.
Hallie Adams (4-11) took the loss after giving up 10 hits and four runs and only striking out three.
The winner of the series will secure their spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament next Wednesday in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The Panthers will be back at the Bob Heck Softball Complex tomorrow at 1 p.m. for game two of the series.
