Conway, S.C. -- Dwon Odom scored a career-high 30 points, but Georgia State fell in overtime 85-83 at Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center.
The Panthers (9-11, 4-5 Sun Belt) dropped their fourth straight game, all on the road.
Georgia State led the entire second half, but Coastal Carolina pulled within three points in the final minute of regulation. The Panthers led 73-70 with 26 seconds left when they turned the ball over on an inbounds play on the CCU baseline. That allowed the Chanticleers to tie the game on three free throws by freshman Braeden MacVicar. Odom drove the lane for a final shot but could not get it to fall, forcing the extra session, in which Coastal Carolina outscored GSU 12-10.
Odom opened the game by scoring Georgia State's first nine points, helping Georgia State build a 39-29 lead at the half. For the game, Odom went 12-for-18 from the field and also contributed three rebounds and three assists.Â
Lucas Taylor scored 14 points, Toneari Lane 13 and Brenden Tucker 11, while Jay'Den Turner pulled down seven rebounds.
Coastal Carolina (6-14, 3-6) had three players record double-doubles, including post players Ginika Ojiako (10 points, 15 rebounds) and Kevin Easley (28 points, 12 rebounds) as well as freshman point guard Jacob Meyer (19 points, 10 rebounds). The Chanticleers used their size to score 44 points in the paint, helped by 12 offensive rebounds.
"Disappointed is an understatement," head coach Jonas Hayes said "Tale of two halves. It really goes back to the defensive end.
"We've got a frustrated locker room, which is to be expected," Hayes continued. "We'll get home and regroup and get back to work. There is absolutely no quit in this group."
After playing four straight road games, Georgia State returns to Atlanta for a pair of home games next week against two of the top teams in the Sun Belt, hosting conference leader App State Thursday at 7 p.m. and then Troy Saturday at 4 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center.
