Panthers Combine for 65 Kills in 3-1 Loss to JMU

ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State volleyball team totaled 65 kills in a four-set (26-28, 35-33, 21-25, 18-25) loss to the JMU Dukes Saturday at home at GSU Sports Arena.

The loss dropped Georgia State's record to 10-6 overall and 1-3 in Sun Belt action.

The Panthers were led by a double-double from Alessia Cappai, who registered 16 kills and 15 digs on the day. Keionna MacKey also added 14 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Kaleigh Fitzgerald chipped in for with nine digs to go with three blocks from Kayla Broom.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Panthers dropped set one 28-26 despite a strong showing on the attacking end. Georgia State put together a .325 attack percentage with 19 kills in the set loss.

SET 2 | Georgia State fired back after dropping the first set to take the second set 35-33, evening the match at one set apiece. The Panthers survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 17 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way. The Panthers racked up 19 kills over the course of the set.

SET 3 | JMU went ahead 2-1 in the match after taking down the Panthers in the third set. The Panthers fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set 25-21.

SET 4 | Georgia State then dropped the fourth set 25-18 to finish off the match. The Panthers trailed by as many as eight points as JMU grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 and Georgia State wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up just once before the Dukes took over.

The Panthers travel to take on Coastal Carolina on Friday Oct. 11 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 12 at 2:00 p.m.
