ATLANTA, GA --The Georgia State volleyball team lost to the Appalachian State Mountaineers 3-2 (25-15, 14-25, 25-19, 19-25, 7-15) Saturday at home at GSU Sports Arena.
The loss dropped Georgia State's record to 14-10 overall and 5-7 in Sun Belt play.
The Panthers were led by a double-double from Alessia Cappai, who registered 14 kills and 13 digs on the day. Akira Burt also added 17 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Kaleigh Fitzgerald chipped in for with 20 digs to go with seven blocks from Kayla Broom.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Panthers took control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-15. Georgia State opened up its biggest lead, 10 points, to close out the set, totaling 15 kills along the way. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Appalachian State attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Georgia State lost set two 25-14 to even the match 1-1. The Panthers lost the first point and never took the lead before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Georgia State fought back following the second-set loss to take the third set and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Panthers took the set 25-19. Georgia State took the lead for good at 16-15 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza. The Georgia State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Georgia State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Mountaineers forced a fifth set with a 25-19 victory. The Panthers dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set.
SET 5 | Georgia State and Appalachian State went back and forth all game, trading wins in the first three sets until the Mountaineers took the last two sets, including winning the fifth set 15-7, and the match. The Panthers fell behind by as many as eight points before losing the fifth set.
The Panthers travel to Statesboro next to take on Georgia Southern.
