Panthers Fall to Old Dominion in Penalty Shootout After 1-1 Draw

FOLEY, AL. - Georgia State battled to a 1-1 draw against Old Dominion in the Sun Belt Conference tournament on Monday, Nov. 4, at Foley Sports Tourism Complex but fell 1-3 in the penalty shootout. The Panthers took an early lead in the 45th minute when Elena Diaz scored just before halftime. Goalkeeper Jaddah Foos made nine saves, keeping Georgia State competitive against a potent Old Dominion offense. Despite the Panthers' defensive efforts, Old Dominion equalized in the 69th minute, sending the game into overtime. Aaliyah Faddoul converted the first attempt in the penalty shootout, but Old Dominion ultimately prevailed with a 3-1 shootout advantage, ending Georgia State's postseason run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elena Diaz opened the scoring in the 45th minute, curling a perfectly placed shot over the goalkeeper's head to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead before the half.

Old Dominion equalized in the 69th minute, floating a long shot over Jaddah Foos' head to make the score 1-1.

Aaliyah Faddoul stepped up to the spot and converted the Panthers' first penalty kick, but the Panthers could not convert any more penalty kicks and fell 1-3 in PK's.
