TROY, AL -- Georgia State dropped its Sun Belt opener 77-57 to Troy on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Trojan Arena. The Panthers were led by Jelani Hamilton, who scored a team-high 18 points, connecting on five three-pointers. Zarique Nutter and Toneari Lane added 10 and 9 points, respectively, while Nick McMullen grabbed six rebounds to anchor the team defensively.
How It Happened
The Panthers struggled offensively in the first half, trailing 39-25 at the break, and shot just 25% from beyond the arc for the game. Despite outscoring Troy in the paint with 24 points, Georgia State committed 14 turnovers, which Troy converted into 21 points. The Trojans used their depth and efficiency, shooting 43.3% from the field and out-rebounding Georgia State 43-29, to maintain control throughout the game.
