BOONE, NC --The Georgia State women's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 93-67 to the Appalachian State Mountaineers on the road Saturday.
The Panthers (15-10, 9-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Christeina Bryan, who had 13 points. Mikyla Tolivert tacked on 13 points and Deasia Merrill helped out with 11 points.
Bryan pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Georgia State, grabbing 13 boards and turning them into 11 second chance points.
Georgia State forced 14 Appalachian State turnovers. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Kaleigh Addie led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
Georgia State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 24-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Georgia State then cut the Mountaineers lead to 30-22 before going on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Alyssa Phillip, to tie the game at 30. Appalachian State then took control, putting the Panthers at a 42-35 disadvantage heading into halftime.
Georgia State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Panthers faced a 69-50 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Georgia State knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 15 total points.
Appalachian State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 82-54 advantage before Georgia State went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 82-61 with 4:18 to go in the contest. Appalachian State responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 93-67. Georgia State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring eight of its 17 total points.
