Georgia State Falls to Western Carolina in Mid-Week Double Header

ATLNATA, GA-- The Panthers dropped a mid-week double header at Western Carolina on Wednesday afternoon. 

GAME 1 | Western Carolina 8, Georgia State 0

CULLOWHEE, N.C. --The Georgia State Panthers were not able to record a run against Western Carolina pitcher sophomore Taylor Norton on Wednesday and were shut out 8-0 by the Catamounts.

Junior Sydney Boulware (4-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Georgia State (8-14).

In the batter's box, the Panthers were paced by junior Chloe Middlebrooks, who went 1-for-3 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Georgia State managed three chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The Panthers last got a runner on third in the fifth, when freshman Jordan Rayner made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.

GAME NOTES

» Georgia State pitchers faced 27 Western Carolina hitters in the game, allowing one ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out four.
» Middlebrooks led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-3.


GAME 2 | Western Carolina 5, Georgia State 3

CULLOWHEE, N.C. --The Western Carolina Catamounts proved to be too much for Georgia State on this particular day, as the Panthers lost 5-3 on Wednesday.

Junior Hallie Adams (2-3) got the ball to start for Georgia State (8-15) and took the loss. Junior Kate Kastelic was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 5.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were paced by senior Carolyn Deady, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Freshman Jordan Rayner put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Georgia State plated two runs when Deady left the yard with junior Jaycee Goodwin aboard.

The Panthers deficit grew to 5-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Sophomore Maya Montague came across to score the lone run of the inning for Georgia State, which tightened the Catamounts lead to 5-3. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
