ATLANTA - Georgia State (6-10) hosted Old Dominion (13-5) and James Madison (7-9) over the weekend. The Panthers fell 4-1 to the Monarchs, and defeated the Dukes 4-0.
GSU vs ODU
The Panthers started off strong in doubles as they saw victory on courts No. 1 and 2.
Gabriele Datei paired with
Maxwell Weir at the top doubles flight and posted a 6-3 decision. At the third doubles flight,
Edward Tymes and
Baran Soyler competed in a close match, ultimately winning 7-6 (7) to clinch the doubles point.
Georgia State entered singles at a 1-0 advantage, but dropped matches on courts No. 1, 2, 4, and 5, falling 4-1 to the Monarchs.
GSU vs JMU
Georgia State bounced back on Sunday morning, starting off the match with doubles victories on courts No. 2 and 3.
Naufal Kamaruzzaman and
Diogo Morais posted a 6-3 decision on court No. 2, and Soyler and Tymes won 6-2 on court No. 3.
Morais fought for a 6-4, 6-2 win on singles court No. 4 to add a second point for the Panthers. Tymes followed up with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court No. 3, making the overall score 3-0.
With one more match needed to clinch, Weir closed out the match on court No. 5 as he defeated his opponent 7-6 (6), 6-3.
The Panthers host Jacksonville State on Wednesday March 27 at 1:30 p.m.
