ATLANTA, GA --ATLANTA -- Ryan Dyal and Brennan Hudson homered and Georgia State rallied with five runs in the sixth through eighth innings to down Mercer 6-4 Wednesday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex. GSU won its fourth straight game.
Hudson, the sophomore left-handed hitter, belted his first homer of the season with a 2-run shot in the sixth inning to pull the Panthers (6-6) within 4-3.
After tying the game with an unearned run in the seventh, the Panthers took the lead with two in the eighth. GSU put runners at second and third as Hudson and Will Patota drew back to back walks and moved to second and third on a wild pitch. With the infield in, JoJo Jackson hit a ground ball to second, and pinch runner Jae Williams beat the throw at home to scored the go-ahead run. Henry Koehler followed with a sacrifice fly for an insurance run.
Sophomore righty Davis Chastain retired the Bears (9-4) in order in the ninth to earn his first save.
Senior Patrick Dunn (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen. The right-hander went 1.1 shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out two. Junior Caleb White started the ballgame and threw four innings, giving up one run on three hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.
Hudson went 2-for-2 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Ryan Dyal drove in Georgia State's first run with a solo homer in the second inning, his third homer in the last four games.
Georgia State continues its homestand with a four-game weekend series against Army, beginning Friday.
