Ryan Dyal hit home runs to lead Georgia State to an 18-8, run-rule victory over Southern Miss in the opening game of their Sun Belt Conference series at the GSU Baseball Complex.
With the win, the Panthers (17-16, 8-5 Sun Belt) and Golden Eagles (21-13, 8-5) are tied for second place in the Sun Belt, along with Coastal Carolina.
Georgia State jumped in front with six runs in the bottom of the first inning as the first six batters reached base. After
Maximus Martin led off with a walk,
Will Mized doubled him home.
Jesse Donohoe followed with an RBI-single, and then Maginnis hit a 2-run homer, his fifth of the season, for a 4-1 lead.
Luke Boynton singled, and then Hudson homered for the fifth time this season to make it 6-1.
Georgia State put up another 6-run inning in the third with 2-run doubles by
JoJo Jackson and Martin, a sacrifice fly by
Will Mize and a run-scoring single by Maginnis to take a 12-3 lead.
The Panthers added four runs in the sixth, highlighted by Dyal's 2-run homer and Mize's RBI-double.
Matt Ruiz delivered the "walk-off" in the seventh with a 2-run single that put the Panthers up 18-8 to invoke the 10-run rule and end the game.
Brian Garmon (2-2) earned the victory with 2.1 innings in relief.
