ATHENS -- Georgia State fell at No. 24 Georgia 10-1 Tuesday at Foley Field.
Maximus Martin led off with a single and scored all the way from first on a single by
Will Mize as the ball went off the shortstop's glove and rolled into center field, giving the Panthers (15-13) the early lead.
But the Bulldogs (23-6) scored three runs in the second and three more in the third to take control.
On staff night for both teams, nine Georgia pitchers combined to limit the Panthers to three hits and no walks while striking out eight.
The Panthers' pitching staff managed to keep UGA star Charlie Condon, the nation's leading hitter, in check, holding him to an 0-for-5 night two strikeouts and just an RBI on a sacrifice fly. GSU starter
Dylan Matela struck out Condon with two runners on base in a scoreless first inning, and reliever
Kameron Douglas fanned him in the eighth.
But the rest of the Georgia lineup managed 15 hits, including home runs by Tre Phelps and Kolby Branch.
Georgia State, in second place in the Sun Belt at 7-2, returns to conference action this weekend at Georgia Southern. Game 1 of the series is Friday at 6:30 p.m. Â
