ATLANTA - Georgia State (8-12) took down South Alabama (8-10) and Troy (18-6) at home for a successful weekend.
Edward Tymes and
Diogo Morais posted a strong performance, taking three out of their four matches. Tymes has now won five singles matches in a row playing at the No. 2 and 3 flights.
GSU vs South Alabama
Georgia State came out strong on Saturday morning, taking doubles matches on courts two and three.
Naufal Kamaruzzaman paired with Morais to score a 6-3 win on court two, and Tymes along
Baran Soyler also took a 6-3 win on court three.
With the Panthers being up 1-0, Tymes added a second point as he defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles flight. The Jags then tied the match at 2-2 with wins on courts No. 3 and 6.
Morais responded with a 7-6(6), 6-4 victory on court No. 4, giving Georgia State the lead. With one more point needed to clinch the match, Soyler posted a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision at the top court to give the Panthers the victory.
GSU vs Troy
The Panthers played Troy on Sunday morning, starting at a 1-0 deficit after losing the doubles point.
Morais posted his second singles win on of the weekend on court No. 4, 6-4, 6-0. Tymes followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court No. 2.
Needing two more points to clinch the match, Kamaruzzaman pulled a 7-5, 6-4 victory on his senior day to give Georgia State the lead.
Maxwell Weir then clinched the match for the Panthers in a three set thriller, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
The Panthers look to keep their winning streak going as they travel to Louisiana on April 13.
