MONTGOMERY, ALA -- Georgia State concluded its 2024 season with a 5-1 loss to Coastal Carolina in the single-elimination round of the Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship Presented by Troy University Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.
JoJo Jackson homered for the No. 10 seed Panthers (25-32, 13-17 Sun Belt) and starting pitcher
Aidan McEvoy turned in a career-best outing and one of the best for GSU all season, but No. 7 seed Coastal Carolina (34-21, 16-14 Sun Belt) rallied with five runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
In his first start for the Panthers, McEvoy, the senior left-hander, pitched six scoreless innings with a career-high nine strikeouts while allowing just three hits.
CCU starter Riley Eikhoff was equally effective, and the game was scoreless through six innings.
Then Jackson led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to left field, an opposite field shot for the switch-hitting outfielder, to give Georgia State a 1-0 lead. That is Jackson's 15th homer of the season and No. 30 of his career, good for 12th in school history.
The Chanticleers answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh off reliever
Brian Garmon II (2-4), who walked two and then allowed a 2-run single to Sam Antonacci. Coastal Carolina added three insurance runs in the ninth on a pair of home runs.
